THE city government of Caloocan, through the initiative of the City Health Department (CHD), launched a vaccine drive against pertussis, to prevent the rise of its infection rates, especially for those vulnerable to the disease such as children and people with weak immune systems.

Whooping cough is a highly contagious respiratory tract infection which is currently on the rise in various areas of the country, including Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan emphasized that prevention is better than cure as the city deals with 12 cases of pertussis and assured parents that vaccines are proven to be safe and effective against the said disease.

The local chief executive likewise declared that the city government is doing its best to remain one step ahead to curb whooping cough infection rates but reminded his constituents to still do their part for themselves and their family members.
