FORMER Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) chief and Sen. Joel Villanueva on Monday led the orientation and payout of the beneficiaries of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay Para sa Ating Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) in Biñan and Sta. Rosa Cities in Laguna.

More than 600 members of the TUPAD emergency employment program from the two cities benefitted from the program.

Villanueva, chairman of the Senate Labor Committee, spearheaded the payout to the more than 400 members in Biñan City who joined the training under the 10-day TUPAD emergency employment program identified by the office of House Deputy Speaker and Biñan City, Laguna lone district Rep. Marlyn “Len” Alonte.

He also ushered the orientation briefing of the more than 200 beneficiaries of TUPAD in Sta. Rosa City.

The senator distributed TUPAD uniform and personal protective equipment during the event.

Villanueva told the beneficiaries that he will push for the extension of the TUPAD emergency employment program through passing of measures that will further benefit the laborers.

He also expressed support in giving additional budget for the TUPAD program being managed by the Department of Labor and Employment.

In 2020, the program had only P6 billion in allocation but Villanueva said the TUPAD budget has ballooned to P19 billion.

Villanueva is running for reelection in the May 2022 polls.
