TWO senators condemned the circulating deepfake audio recordings believed to be an AI- produce recordings of President Ferdinand Marcos jr. purportedly instructing the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to act against China.

“This is so foul. I think it is important for the right agencies of the government like the Department of Justice, and the National Bureau of Investigaton to act on this immediately in order to know and unravel the truth behind this kind of criminal act. Masama po ang intensyon ng mga nasa likod ng ganitong gawain,” Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito said in an interview.

Ejercito insisted the need to investigate thoroughly and hold accountable the personalities behind this deceiving act as this might create more trouble in the future.

National security issue is at risk here. We cannot just ignore this matter. We need to take this seriously. I am very sure may motibo ang mga nasa likod nito” Ejercito added.

He said a strong measures must be created against this kind of Artificial Intelligence in order to combat fake news, misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation.

Earlier, the Presidential Communication Office (PCO) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) reported the audio recording of President Marcos jr. which was maliciously manipulated and edited using artificial Intelligence (AI).

“Obviously this is to create animosity and discredit the present administration. Malicious and dangerous po ang ganitong gawain and the message is clearly to create problem for the country especially that we are now having this Balikatan Exercise,” Ejercito said

Senator Robinhood Padilla during the Kapihan sa Senado also expressed the same view with Ejercito saying that the government must not ignore this kind of activities especially that the victim is our Chief Executive and the topic of the matter is crucial between the Philippine and China amid the West Philippine Sea issue.

Padilla said.

He also urged the need for agencies of the government to act swiftly and to file the necessary legal action against this fake news which is directly hitting President Marcos jr as the target.

Padilla urged.

It can be recalled that the so-called fake video of President Marcos was uploaded in a popular video streaming platform and was shared in various social media platforms.

No less than the PCO belied this and clarified that the video content circulating online featuring manipulated audio Marcos jr. is a fake one which was alledgedly directing the military to take action against China.
