IN celebration of the forthcoming Mother’s Day on Sunday, the Act Agri Kaagapay Organization, in partnership with the Batangas local government officials headed by Mayor Janet Ilagan, organized a livelihood skills training program on hair-cutting and hair re-bonding on May 8, 2024 in Barangay Lumang Lipa, Mataas na Kahoy, Batangas.

At least 300 women, including a number of men, participated in the training program, which was entitled “Gunting at Suklay Caravan” and was initiated by Act Agri-Kaagapay Organization founder and president Virginia Ledesma Rodriguez to help uplift the lives of poor families with just a comb and a pair of scissors.

During the recognition ceremony held at the covered court in Bgy. Lumang Lipa, Rodriguez said she strongly believes that to teach women new skills is to empower them, which is why they came up with this project.

Ms. Rodriguez also gave cash assistance to all participants of the training.

“This project will not be made possible without the support of Bgy. Capt, Noli Ilagan and his wife, Shioli Ilagan, and the full support of the next Batangas governor Jay “Manalo” Ilagan, by helping them acquire new skills, regain their confidence and the courage and an opportunity to earn so that they can support their families,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez was the “adopted child” of Batangas because of her numerous livelihood projects in the province of Batangas.

Aside from hair cutting and re-bonding training, each participant was also given a starter kit, which contained a complete set of hair cutting and hair re-bonding tools, so that they can immediately use their new learning to generate income by offering their services.

The program was conducted by trained industry professionals who take time off from their own salon businesses, and to teach them the basic hair cutting technique and styles.

The Act Agri-Kaagapay organization is pro-poor and pro-life organization that extends its arm to help mostly small farmers, indigenous peoples and fisherfolks so that they can work and have food on their table and uplift their state of life.

“It’s gratifying to be able to help people, and we hope that Act Agri-Kaagapay to continue helping more people for the years to come,” Rodriguez said.

Aside from the hair and comb project, Rodriguez will continue to conduct various free trainings and seminars on the production of organic fertilizers with the aim of reducing the small farmers cost in buying the more expensive chemical based-fertilizers.

“Puwede ninyo i-follow ang iba pang programa at aktibidad ng ACT Agri Kaagapay sa FB na Queen Vi Rodriguez” ani Ms. Rodriguez.
