CIDG seizes P400K smuggled cigarettes in Davao del Sur

SOME P400,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes were seized by agents of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in an anti-smuggling operation in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur on Wednesday, PNP-CIDG director Maj. Gen. Romeo M. Caramat Jr. said yesterday.

The official said that members of the CIDG Region 11 unit, with the help of the Sta. Cruz Municipal Police Station, conducted the operation which led to the arrest of alias “Rashdy” in an entrapment operation in Bgy. Bato late Wednesday evening.

Described as an illegal trader of smuggled cigarettes, the 27-year-old suspect yielded an estimated P400,000 worth of D & J menthol, LE Red, President Red, Capital Red and Royal menthol cigarettes.

Also recovered during the operation was the buy-bust money topped by a marked P1,000 bill.

The suspect, who was taken to the CIDG Davao del Sur Provincial Field Unit office, is facing a string of criminal charges for smuggling and violation of the tobacco law, said Caramat.
