DEPARTMENT of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Wednesday said that the viral dashcam (dashboard camera) footage of a hit-and-run incident involving a security guard in Mandaluyong City can be used as evidence.

“Yes, but it needs proper authentication in accordance with the Rules of Court,” Guevarra said when asked if the footage is admissible in evidence.

A security guard sustained multiple injuries all over his body after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) he was trying to accost in Mandaluyong City ran him over on Sunday.

In a viral dashcam footage posted on Facebook, Christian Joseph Floralde, was seen enforcing the traffic flow near a mall at the intersection of Julio Vargas Avenue and St. Francis Street in Mandaluyong when he tried to stop a white SUV.

The driver suddenly ran over him and fled the scene. Floralde, 31, sustained abrasions on his head and body and is now undergoing treatment.

The Mandaluyong City Police has filed frustrated murder charges against the SUV owner.

Likewise, a complaint for “Abandonment of One’s Own Victim” has also been filed against the SUV owner.
