MANILA Vice Mayor and currently Acting Mayor John Marvin “Yul Servo” Nieto received excessive recognition from his fellow public servants following a successful celebration of the Manila City Council’s (MCC) 122nd Founding Anniversary from July 31 to August 14.

A perfectionist and a hands-on public servant, Nieto led the organizing Committee as the council’s Presiding Officer where he showed confidence in the details in the planning for the event dubbed “Preserving Legacy by Being Future Ready”.

The 122nd Founding Anniversary celebration of the city council was also marked with the launching of the Council’s official website and the giving of awards, rewards, and plaques of recognition to past and present council members, who made an impact on the respected body.

According to Nieto, he authored the resolution to expedite the digitalization of the city council’s records and the launching of the website because he wants the council to be transparent and accessible to Manileños.

“Nakakatuwa at malaking tulong sa mga kabataan o sinuman na ang records natin ay maisasalin sa digital format. Sa tulong ng internet, isang pindot mo lang o i-type mo lang ang author nung ordinance, lalabas na agad ito sa kung anumang search engine ang ginagamit mo, tulad ng Google halimbawa,” the vice mayor said in an interview.

Aside from his concern to facilitate ease of doing business with the council through digitalization, Nieto is also concerned about the health of Manilenos as he sustained “Araw Nyo, Serbisyo Ko” medical missions that provide free medicines, dental, health, and wellness services while being supported by Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan.

At present, his medical mission had already benefited over 30,000 Manileños and he even includes free legal and documentation assistance, free haircut, massage, and anti-rabies vaccination for pets.

He also led the wedding ceremony of some 175 Manileno and Manilena couples that have been practically living together as husband and wife, with many of them already having children, without the benefit of marriage through si “Kasalang Bayan” program.

“But what makes Manila Vice Mayor Yul Servo Nieto more than a good public servant is his unstoppable advocacy to help the Manilenos, especially the poor and marginalized,” said one of the recipients in the recent awarding of the 21 members of MCC who were cited for exemplary performance and dedication.
