Newborn baby found dead in Ecija irrigation canal
STA. ROSA, Nueva Ecija – A dead newly-born infant with her umbilical cord still uncut was found floating in an irrigation canal here on Tuesday afternoon.
Police head Major Neilmar Retana said his office got wind of the report after receiving a mobile phone call from a concerned citizen at 5:00 p.m. here.
Responding to the area, probers from the Women’s and Children Protection Desk found the dead baby floating in an irrigation canal located in Barangay Tagpos.
With the help of barangay tanods, Retana said the baby’s body was retrieved from the canal and it was discovered that it was a girl with its umbilical cord still intact.
Retana said they are now investigating to know the identities of the baby’s parents.
