MANILA Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) head City Engineer Armand Andres revealed that they will shoulder the repair and rehabilitation of the iconic Lagusnilad vehicular underpass which is under the national government being a part of the national road.

Engr. Andres said Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan has decided to allocate funds intended for the rehabilitation of Lagusnilad vehicular underpass which has been long neglected by the national government, thus garnering a lot of complaints from motorists passing regularly in the area.

He explained that Lagusnilad, being a part of Taft Avenue, which is a national road, is under the management of the national government.

The repair and rehabilitation of Lagusnilad has been abandoned for a long time after it was started by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), but for unknown reason, the project was halted causing everyday traffic congestion.

Aside from this, the area became prone to vehicular accidents, especially motorcycle riders, after the road was just scraped and left without putting an asphalt pavement.

Andres said the repair and rehabilitation will start in a week or two. They have to study the roads that will be used for traffic re-routing.

He added that the target date of completion should be before the rainy season.
