PHILIPPINE National Police chief Gen. Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. yesterday ordered a thorough investigation into the mysterious death of a young policeman in Wao, Lanao del Sur.

“The entire PNP extend our condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the victim, Patrolman Jeffrey Inclonar Dabuco,” said the top cop who described as a tragic case the discovery of the officer’s body.

An investigation showed that last June 26, members of the Wao Municipal Police Station received a report regarding the discovery of a decomposing male body at the Marudagao River in Purok 2, Bgy. Panang in Wao municipality.

Wao policemen, with the help of officers from the Kalilangan Municipal Police Station, and the Regional Mobile Force Battalion of the Police Regional Office 10, went to the scene to investigate.

Prior to that, Pat. Dabuco was listed as a “missing person” in Kalilangan town last June 23.

Officers who retrieved the man’s body from the river said that it matched the description of the missing policeman.

The remains were transferred to the Kalilangan Provincial Hospital in Bukidnon for further investigation and examination by the Scene-of-the-Crime-Operations of the PNP Forensic Group.

Acorda expressed his grief over the discovery of the cop’s body and assured the public that the PNP is committed to pursue the case and ensure a thorough and fair investigation.

“The loss of one of our own is a profound tragedy. We will spare no effort in uncovering the truth behind this incident and holding accountable those responsible,” he said.

Last June 28, the Kalilangan Municipal Police Station took the affidavits of several “persons of interest” on the death of the police officer. The details of their involvement and the nature of their interest are currently under investigation, said the PNP chief, as he urged anyone with relevant information to the case to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
