GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. yesterday led the distribution of 1,200 sacks of confiscated smuggled rice to the identified beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) residing in this city.

The President was accompanied by General Trias City Mayor Luis “Jon Jon” Ferrer IV, Cavite 6th District Congressman Antonio Ferrer and Vice Mayor Jonas Labuguen in handing over the sack of rice to each beneficiary held at General Trias Sports Park in Bgy. Santiago.

The distribution was conducted amid volcanic smog in the province caused by the emission of vog of the Taal Volcano.

The rice being distributed in the city are part of the 42,180 smuggled sacks of rice worth P42 million in Zamboanga City that were seized by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) in one of its warehouse’ raids last week.

Per existing laws, the confiscated sacks of rice will be donated to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for distribution to its beneficiaries after failure of illegal importers to defend their activities in 15 days.

PBBM recently distributed rice to the 4Ps recipients in Zamboanga City and Zamboanga Sibugay as he reiterated his administration’s commitment to address smuggling and illegal hoarders that negatively impact the agricultural sector.

The Chief Executive also led the turnover of various assistance from the Department of Agriculture (DA) that include palay and vegetable seeds,
fertilizers, grass-cutters and hydroponic kits to around 200 farmers.

Prior to the turnover of aid to farmers, the President also spearheaded the opening of Uniliver’s Beauty, Well-Being, and Personal Care manufacturing facility at Gateway Business Park in Bgy. Javalera, City of General Trias, Cavite.

The new facility is one of the investment deals secured by President Marcos during his meeting with Unilever officials on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations-European Union (ASEAN-EU) Commemorative Summit in Brussels, Belgium last December 2022.

In his message, President Marcos emphasized the expected contribution of Unilever’s state-of-the-art facility to the manufacturing sector, as well as to the creation of many jobs for Filipinos.

“It is a truly welcome development for our shared efforts to strengthen the manufacturing sector and to ultimately create jobs and gainful opportunities for our people,” said the President.

He also thanked Unilever for the trust and confidence to invest in the country.
