MC rider killed, 9 hurt in 10-vehicle smashup in Cavite

DASMARIÑAS CITY, Cavite – One motorcycle (MC) rider died after being trapped in a collision of ten vehicles while nine people were injured, plowed by an aluminum truck that lost its brakes, Tuesday night, March 22, 2022, along Emilio Aguinaldo Highway, Bgy. San Agustin 2 here.

The rider, identified as Jonel Dariagan Dacles, 37, driver of the Honda XRM Motorcycle, was crushed after being pinned.

Nine people were treated at separate hospitals identified as Jomar Abad, 28; Butz Del Carmen, 34; Jose Daryl Sobretodo, 34; Rodelle Terrence Mejia, 23; Emmanuel Santos, 46; Ritzand Neil Recto, 38; Jeffrey Jardin, 4; Renario Pagalan, 54; and Edwin Cabong, 52.

Investigation by PSSgt. Apolonio Narte showed the accident took place at 9 p.m. when the victims’ vehicles were stopped due to a red traffic light.

Involved were a Suzuki Swift driven by Abad; Yamaha NMax MC driven by Del Carmen; another Yamaha NMax MC driven by Sobretodo; Honda XRM MC, driven by Mejia; Honda Click MC driven by Santos; Hyundai Accent, driven by Recto; Toyota Innova driven by Jardin; Fuso Tractor truck driven by Jardin; Toyota Avanza, driven by Pagalan; and the Isuzu Jitney driven by Cabong.

The vehicles were plowed by a Hino Aluminum Truck driven by the suspect Gerald Dalonoy Corimo, 26, truck driver, and currently detained by the Dasmariñas City Police who was also slightly injured.

According to the suspect, he was driving fast and when he stepped on the brake, it did not bite so he continued to collide with the said vehicles that were stopped at that time.

The rider victim was trapped causing instantaneous death.

The truck driver is now facing multiple charges.
