QUEZON Rep. Angelina “Helen” Tan has appealed to the Department of Health (DoH) to expedite the delivery of additional vaccines to address the spikes of COVID-19 infections in the province. This is in response to the steady rise of COVID-19 cases in the province, where 145 residents already died and nearly 10,000 infected by the deadly virus.

In an interview with Ely Saludar, host of the Mata ng Agila newscast over at Net 25 last night, Tan said most vaccinations cover only two districts: the first and fourth districts while the two other districts are far from the expected vaccinated rates of the region of CALABARZON.

“By increasing the number of vaccinated people, we will be able to at least achieve a certain amount of immunity against the spread of COVID-19 virus, “ said Tan who is also a practicing physician specializing in tubercular and respiratory diseases.

Health records show that Quezon province had been allocated thousands of doses of Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines. So far, no dose of the reputed Sputnik V vaccines came since April 30.

Several factors affect the vaccine rollouts, including increased numbers of COVID-19 positive cases that came from nearby provinces as well as lack of additional health workers.

Latest statistics from the Department of Health show that for the past 14 days, 791 new cases have been recorded, of which 145 people died. There are 9,679 COVID-19 cases occupying 57.4% of 26 health facilities scattered throughout the province.

Tan believes that more vaccinated people, the higher the chance of defeating the spread of the virus that has already infected more than a million Filipinos as of date.

“Crucial in our fight against COVID-19 is the alliance between government and the private sector. We need everyone’s help. Government cannot do this alone. We need the cooperation of every one,” added Tan who also chairs the House Committee on Health.
