Bgy councilor, lady trader die in Batangas ambushes
A COUNCILOR of Bgy Binubusan and a female trader in Bgy. Sancarlos died after being shot by still unknown assailants in Lian and Lipa City respectively.
Lian Municipal Police Station chief Captain Amiel Bernardo Sanhi Jr. identified the slain councilor as Lian Buenaventura de Luna Caraig.
The businesswoman who was shot in the head and died on the spot was identified as Hydie Umali Bathan.
In the initial investigation, the barangay official was shot in the back around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday by unidentified suspects on board a motorcycle then fled towards unknown direction.
Initial investigation showed Caraig was shot from behind by unidentified suspects on board a motorcycle. The victim was declared dead on arrival at the Apacible Memorial Hospital, in Nasugbu.
Police investigators recovered four fired cartridge casings for a .45 caliber at the crime scene.
Umali was busy attending to her store in Bgy. San Carlos, Lipa City, when an unidentified suspect armed shot her in the head at about 6:45 p.m.
