AGENTS of the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) arrested a 24-year-old male from Hagonoy, Bulacan over alleged ‘sextortion,’ last Tuesday, PNP-Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) director, Major General Sidney Hernia said.

The suspect is facing criminal charges of robbery-extortion and violation of Republic Act 9995 or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2010 and RA 11313 or the Safe Spaces Act, all in relation to RA 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

The suspect’s arrest was triggered by a complaint from a 22-year-old woman from Novaliches, Quezon City.

An investigation conducted by the Q.C. District Anti-Cybercrime Unit led by Major Eric Casabal showed that early this month, the complainant encountered the suspect on the website “Chatblink.”

After a series of conversations, the two agreed to exchange usernames on Telegram and Snapchat.

The two eventually had a series of conversations which later turned into sleazy activities and led them to be engaged in video sex call (VSC).

Unknown to the woman, the suspect took a screen recording of their VSC.

Last Sunday, the woman received a threatening message from the suspect’s Telegram account ‘Nico’ demanding P5,000 in exchange for not spreading her obscene picture and video.

The accused also told the victim she has to send the money through GCash.

On the same day, the complainant went to the office of the PNP-ACG to report the incident.

She was advised to continue communicating with the suspect leading to the successful sting.
