ANADOLU — The British government summoned the Chinese ambassador Wednesday after China’s escalating military drills near Taiwan.

Zheng Zeguang was summoned by the Foreign Office to explain Beijing’s dramatic escalation of tensions between Taiwan and China.

“The UK and partners have condemned in the strongest terms China’s escalation in the region around Taiwan, as seen through our recent G7 statement,” Foreign Minister Liz Truss said in a statement.

“We have seen increasingly aggressive behavior and rhetoric from Beijing in recent months, which threaten peace and stability in the region. The United Kingdom urges China to resolve any differences by peaceful means, without the threat or use of force or coercion,” she added.

Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the US House of Representatives, made a highly controversial visit last week to Taiwan.

China condemned the visit and accused Washington of acting recklessly. By Muhammad Mussa
