PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) chief General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr. on Friday handed over a P420,000 reward to an informant who provided vital information that led to the killing of a criminal gang leader in Parañaque City last Jan. 24.

Joined by PNP Director for Intelligence, Major Gen. Robert Alexander A. Morico II, Acorda cited the unnamed tipster’s valuable information which enabled the police force to corner and later kill Gilbert Concepcion, believed to be the leader of the Concepcion Criminal Group.

“The informant’s invaluable information exemplifies the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between the community and law enforcement,” said Acorda.

The PNP chief also pinned medals to five generals and four colonels involved in the killing of the person.

Given the PNP Medalya ng Katangi Tanging Gawa or PNP Outstanding Achievement Medal were National Capital Region Police Office director Major Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., PNP Director for Intelligence Major Gen. Roberto Alexander A. Morico II, PNP Director for Research and Development Brigadier Gen. Westrimundo D. Obinque, PNP Intelligence Group director Brig. Gen. Romeo G. Macapaz and Police Regional Office 5 director Brig. Gen. Andre P. Dizon.

Two other PNP officers–Colonel Noel B. Ponollera and Lieutenant Colonel Raymund D. Train–also received the same award from the PNP chief.

Col. Jeric P. Villanueva of the PNP-IG and Lt. Col. Dante O. Bernales of the Regional Intelligence Unit 5 received the PNP Medalya ng Kagalingan or PNP Medal of Merit.

The five generals got the award for their ‘distinguished service and exemplary leadership’ during the implementation of the PNP Coplan: Iron which led in the killing of Concepcion.
