A CHINESE national was apprehended by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for suspected involvement in human trafficking activities in Pasay City, according to the NBI-International Operations Division (NBI-IOD).

The suspect identified as Wen Fangfang, was arrested during an entrapment operation following a tip-off about a group of Chinese nationals engaged in online human trafficking activities through several condominium units in Pasay City.

The NBI said the suspect’s group had violated Republic Act No. 9208, or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, as revised.

The NBI discovered that the group utilized the Telegram messaging app to publish photographs of women for prostitution so male clients could select and book them. Only foreign customers were permitted to participate.

The NBI-IOD conducted a series of surveillance operations that revealed the group’s activities were being carried out in several condominiums on Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard, in Pasay City.

On March 7, NBI-IOD operatives, joined by officials from the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the Chinese Embassy, went to the designated location.

Although several Chinese nationals were in the premises, it is uncertain why Fangfang was the sole individual apprehended and subsequently charged.

Fangfang was charged with violating RA 9208, as revised by RA 10364.
