CIDG-NCRFU arrests 2 Chinese nationals for selling counterfeit goods

TWO Chinese nationals accused of involvement in the distribution and sale of counterfeit goods were arrested by agents of the National Capital Region Field Unit of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group on Tuesday afternoon, the Journal Group learned yesterday.

Suspects Mhong Xiangmao alias “Carlos Ang” and Cong Ming Hong, both residents of Lot D2D Mercardo St., Bgy. Tabe in Guiguinto, Bulacan, are facing criminal charges for violation of Republic Act 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, said PNP-CIDG director Maj. Gen. Leo M. Francisco.

The official said that members of the CIDG-NCRFU headed by Col. Joel Manuel A. Ana arrested the two accused around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday inside their residence in Guiguinto, Bulacan, which the officers raided on the strength of a search warrant for violation of RA 8293 issued by Judge Isidra Argañosa-Maniego of the Malolos City Regional Trial Court Branch 7.

The raid resulted in the recovery of 46 big boxes containing over a million pesos worth of suspected fake horse toys, Nike and Adidas t-shirts and other shirts with unknown brand, as well as assorted toy parts.

Local barangay officials witnessed the conduct of the raid, along with a representative from the two’s company.

The two accused are being investigated at the CIDG-NCRFU office in Camp Crame.

The raid was part of the stepped-up implementation of the CIDG “Oplan Megashopper” aimed at combating the sale of smuggled and counterfeit goods nationwide, said Francisco.
