THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) amended the duration of Special Permits to be issued by the Board to selected public utility vehicles (PUVs) for this year’s Holy Week observation.

In Board Resolution No. 009, the LTFRB “resolves to amend the duration of the Special Permit for 2023 Holy Week from April 2, 2023 to 11 April 2023 to March 31, 2023 to April 17, 2023.”

The amended duration for Holy Week Special Permits issued to selected PUVs came on the heels of Proclamation No. 90 by Malacañang, which declared April 6 (Maundy Thursday) and April 7 (Good Friday) as regular holidays.

The proclamation also moved the commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor), a regular holiday observed every April 9, to April 10 since April 9 falls on a Sunday this year.

Given the long holidays, and the “relaxation of travel restrictions and opening of economic activities,” the board resolution cited, it is expected that more travelers are expected to go home to the provinces to take advantage of the five-day long break.

“With the five-day break, it will give more Filipinos the chance to spend more time with their families in the provinces and for spiritual reflection during the Holy Week. That is why the Board decided to change the duration of Special Permits so that the commuting public is assured of sufficient supply of public transportation that would take them to their destination,” says LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III.
