PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) chief General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil on Friday installed Major Gen. Leo Francisco as the 48th director of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

Francisco replaced Maj. Gen. Romeo M. Caramat Jr. who is now acting Area Police Command (APC)-Northern Luzon director.

Marbil went to the PNP-CIDG headquarters in Camp Crame to preside over the CIDG turnover and announced Caramat will be moved to the APC-Northern Luzon to get his 3rd star.

Caramat led the unit in conducting 20,290 operations which resulted in the arrest of 22,802 lawbreakers and the seizure of some P16.8 billion worth of crime evidence, including 2,652 illegal firearms.

Francisco ensured that all personnel of the CIDG should be an investigator from the senior officers down to the lowest-ranking personnel.

He also assured Marbil he will be unrelenting in the pursuit of fairness and justice and the strict enforcement of internal discipline.

Francisco is no stranger to the PNP-CIDG since he used to be assigned to the same unit during his early years in the police service.

He later became the PNP Director for Operations until being designated as PNP Director for Investigation and Detection Management (DIDM) last February 20.

Brigadier Gen. Matthew P. Baccay, meanwhile, has been named as the new PNP-DIDM director.

Baccay has been the PNP Deputy Director for Personnel and Records Management since August 8, 2022.
