ZARAGOSA, Nueva Ecija — The 27-man strong League of Municipalities of the Philippines-Nueva Ecija chapter is asking why local chief executives like them are not among those given special eligibilities for appointment to certain level positions in the career service as provided for under the law by the Civil Service Commission.

Rizal Mayor Katrina Hannah “Trina” Andres voiced out this concern during the 4th regular meeting of the LMP-NE held at the Abby’s Event Center in Bgy. Macarse in this town on Friday.

Andres asked why only the vice mayors, members of the Sanggunian and barangay officials are among those recognized by the CSC to be given special eligibilities for appointment to certain career service level positions with the exception of mayors like herself.

LMP-NE president and San Antonio Mayor Arvin C. Salonga took cognizance of the mayor’s query and said the matter would be brought up before the concerned government agency for any appropriate action.

“Let us see,” said Salonga.

Also presented during the LMP-NE meeting was the proposed link-up by the local government units with GCash, the mobile wallet of Globe, in the roll-out of its Paleng-QR Ph program in the province.

Trisha Dizon, GCash executive officer, explained the program which aims to promote cashless payments in public markets and local transportation, allowing vendors and tricycle drivers to transact with their customers through GCash QR codes.

Former LMP-NE president and former Peňaranda mayor Ferdinand “Blueboy” Abesamis also said he was told by Nueva Ecija Gov. Aurelio M. Umali to reach out to the mayors so that they can avail of the programs and funds under the Department of Agriculture’s Philippine Rural Development Project.

“Kausapin ko ang mga mayor para nang sa ganun iyung PRDP funds ay makuha nila, sayang naman po kasi nag-scale out mayroon pong additional na pondo at nagkakagulo na ngayon ang mga LGUs, probinsiya, siyudad, at munisipyo una-unahan makakuha ng pondo sa PRDP. Ang gusto ni Gov ang mga LGU dito sana ay magkaroon din ng inisyatibo para makakuha ng pondo sa PRDP,” said Abesamis.

Bongabon Mayor Ricardo I. Padilla also asked the group to seek audience with the electric cooperatives in the province and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines about the long and recurring power outages that have been affecting the flow of trade and commerce in his town.

Meanwhile, San Leonardo municipal administrator Peter Fajardo, representing Mayor Elan Nagaňo, sought help from the group to summon the head of the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology about the numerous requests of parents of incoming-college freshmen to offer a criminology course in the said university.
