PRO-9 cops confiscate P900K worth of shabu, zap 5 drug suspects

POLICE Regional Office (PRO)-9 director Brigadier General Bowenn Joey Masauding on Saturday said five drug targets in Western Mindanao were arrested in an anti-narcotics operation this week which led to the confiscation of nearly P900,000 worth of shabu.

In a report to Philippine National Police chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil, the official said one of the suspects, a 37-year-old woman, yielded P686,000 worth of shabu.

The suspect was arrested in Bagong Daan, Brgy. Sta. Maria, Zamboanga City past 10:00 p.m. last Wednesday by undercover officers of the Zamboanga City Police Station Drug Enforcement Team and the Philippine Air Force.

The 2nd suspect, a 38-year-old man, was arrested with P115,600 worth of shabu.

Another target of the raid was not around during the operation and is still being hunted.

Masauding said another anti-drug raid in Brgy. Gubang, Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur on Tuesday resulted in the confiscation of 13 sachets loaded with P68,000 worth of shabu and a caliber .45 pistol.

In Purok Neptune, Brgy. Bangkerohan, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, police also arrested a 54-year-old man and an 18-year-old construction worker after they conspired to sell shabu to an undercover officer.

Confiscated during the sting were seven plastic sachets full of shabu worth P15,000.

The 5th suspect, a 43-year-old farmer from La Swerte, Brgy. La Dicha, Malangas, Zamboanga Sibugay, yielded an estimated P5,400 worth of shabu during a buy-bust on Wednesday evening.

All suspects are now facing criminal charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
