DU30’s last lap

PRESIDENT Duterte completes next month the fifth year of his six-year administration, with no sign of backing off from his commitment to address the country’s major problems.

In fact, Duterte is seen to continue going after corrupt government officials and those involved in the lucrative but illegal drugs business until the last day of his presidency on June 30, 2022.

The hard-hitting Chief Executive from impoverished Mindanao has put in place programs aimed at speeding up the socio-economic development of this Third World Southeast Asian nation.

This, despite the fact that his crusading government has to grapple with monumental obstacles and challenges, particularly the dreaded coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

In fact, the pandemic has devastated the Philippine economy, rendering jobless millions of our workers, including hundreds of thousands of our overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

And to think that the dollar remittances of our army of migrant workers help prop up the struggling local economy.

Today, note that the people, not only in urban centers but also in the poverty-stricken countryside, still support President Duterte as he gears up for the last lap of his presidency.

With his popularity, the tough-talking Chief Executive, a known graft-buster, ought to hit hard at all the “rotten eggs” in society 13 months before he leaves Malacanang.

Banat pa, Pangulong Duterte!
