‘Show no mercy’

SOMETHING in the total war against online sexual abuse and exploitation of children that should not be ignored is President Marcos’ order “not to show mercy” to offenders.

Without doubt, the “show no mercy” order is ample proof that President Marcos is not only alarmed but enraged by the increasing number of online child abuse cases.

During a meeting in Malacanang last Wednesday, Marcos was “very, very alarmed and very, very disturbed,” according to Palace press briefer Daphne Osena-Paez.

In fact, the Palace briefer said President Marcos condemned in the strongest of terms the online crimes against the country’s chidren.

The Chief Executive specifically ordered the DILG, PNP, NBI and DSWD to intensify the nationwide fight against online sexual abuse and exploitation of children.

Mr. Marcos also told the DILG and PNP to intensify the monitoring of cases locally and abroad and have increased presence in communities.

We cannot overemphasize the importance of identifying, arresting and charging all those involved in these cases.

Certainly, the enraged President is on the right path in ordering concerned government offices and agencies to hit hard at these online criminals.

Of course, the Filipino people, including the ordinary citizens across the country, expect the government to deliver on its avowed pro-children agenda.

In the view of many quarters, it is good for the people and country.
