THE Senate’s decision to continue its probe on the alleged “PDEA leaks” that has been unceremoniously maligning the good reputation of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. has been described by a House leader as a “mere political circus” and part of a bigger and orchestrated destabilization plot against the administration.

Deputy Speaker and Quezon Rep. David “Jayjay” Suarez made this assertion Monday during the daily press conference at the House of Representatives, calling on the Senate to just focus on more important matters that merit the exercise of its oversight functions.

“Unang-una para po doon sa Senate hearing, of course we respect the position of the Senate, but sa akin kasi kung hindi nakakatulong sa bansa, bakit pa natin pag-uubusan ng oras at panahon?” Suarez, the leader of the so-called Young Guns in the House of Representatives, said.

“Sa akin, this is a mere political circus. I think this is part of a bigger orchestrated destabilization movement against the Marcos administration,” he added.

Last week, members of the Young Guns have said that the testimony of former Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agent Jonathan Morales linking President Bongbong Marcos Jr. to illegal drug use may be part of a larger effort to discredit and destabilize the current administration.

However, the PDEA itself has already discredited Morales, saying the documents he was referring to does not exist, adding that the former anti-drug agent was dismissed for dishonesty and misconduct and now facing several legal proceedings.

“Nakita naman na natin na nag-issue na ng statement ang PDEA. Diniscredit na nila iyong document, wala daw katototohanan iyon. Tapos yung credibility nung hinarap na witness, questionable,” Suarez said.

He then called on the Senate to just focus its energies on matters that will help uplift the condition of the Filipino people, such as amending the Rice Tariffication Law to bring back the affordable “NFA rice” in the market.

“I do hope and I pray to our colleagues in the Senate to focus on issues that have more national significance to the lives of the Filipino people … Why don’t we focus our efforts, our resources, on more important matters such as the Rice Tariffication Law, amending it?” Suarez said.

“Why don’t we focus our attention in going against those price manipulators, those hoarders, those unscrupulous businessmen behind the increase in rising prices na nagpapahirap sa buhay ng bawat Pilipino?” he asked.

“Bakit hindi natin tutukan yung mga problema na hinaharap ng ating bansa na mas may kinalaman sa pag-angat ng antas ng buhay ng ating mga kababayan?”
