Timely warning

THIS is something the Filipino people should never ignore.

It’s the “timely warning” issued by the Department of Education (DepEd) to the nation’s graduating students, parents or guardians.

DepEd warned the public against falling prey to circulating social media posts offering cash assistance to graduating students.

The offer is open to graduating elementary, high school and college students not only in the metropolis but throughout the country.

The supposed cash assistance ranges from P5,000 to P10,000.

“Dahil sa kahirapan, maraming estudyante ang mabibiktima ng mga scammer na ito,” according to a worried local government official.

“Mabuti na lang at kaagad na nagpalabas ng babala ang DepEd dahil malapit na ang katapusan ng buwan,” the government official added.

School year 2023-2024 ends on May 29, according to the education department.

The social media post said that an applicant must submit a “PSA,” meaning the birth certificate from the Philippine Statistics Authority.

Likewise, the graduating student is required to submit a good moral certificate and his or her school report card.

Local government authorities, particularly barangay officials, ought to help DepEd in protecting the public against social media scammers.

This will be good for the Filipino people.
