PHILIPPINE National Police Officer-in-Charge (PNP-OIC), Lieutenant General Vicente D. Danao Jr., on Tuesday announced the capture of a most wanted Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) member during an anti-terror raid in Zamboanga City last Saturday.

Arrested during the raid on a suspected ASG safehouse in Bgy. Arena Blanco in Zamboanga City was alias “Ubbie”, the subject of non-bailable arrest warrants for murder, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and three counts of frustrated murder.

According to the top cop, the accused was arrested by operatives from the Zamboanga City Provincial Mobile Force Company, the PNP Intelligence Group, the 84th Special Action Company of the PNP Special Action Force, the Police Regional Office 9 (PRO 9), the 206th Tactical Helicopter Squadron of the Philippine Air Force (PAF), and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA).

Lt. Gen. Danao said Judge Bensaudi Arabani of the Parang, Sulu Regional Trial Court Branch 4 ordered the suspect’s arrest for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013 and murder and three counts of frustrated murder.

The official said that the suspect is believed to be a member of an ASG band led by Albader Parad and Majan Sahidjuan, who gained notoriety for their involvement in kidnapping for ransom, extortion, robbery, and other terroristic activities in Sulu province.

Lt. Gen. Danao added that the suspect is also wanted for his purported role in killing four PNP personnel led by former Sulu Police Provincial Office Director Senior Superintendent Julasirim Kasim in Maimbung municipality in 2009.

The PNP-OIC said that the suspected “terrorist” is also wanted for his involvement in robbery incidents in Maimbung, Sulu, and illegal drug activities in Zamboanga City.

Recovered were three caliber .45 semi-automatic pistols, one cal. .38 revolver, seven .45 magazines, one M-16 magazine, 25 rounds of cal. 5.56 live ammunition, 30 .45 bullets, and 16 rounds of cal. 7.62 bullets.

“He is a very notorious individual with multiple criminal cases. His arrest is a major accomplishment in our fight against lawlessness. Now, it’s time for him to face the charges lodged against him,” Lt. Gen. Danao said.
