EAC stuns St. Dominic

EMILIO Aguinaldo College concluded its elimination round campaign with a 68-61victory over St. Dominic College of Asia in the 30th National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) basketball tournament at the Olivarez Gymnasium in Parañaque City.

The Cavite-based Vanguards of coach Azlie Guro relied on the trio of JR Ilustrisimo, Kerwin Urate and CJ Quirap, who combined for 43 points.

Ilustrisimo finished with 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field, on top of 12 rebounds and eight assists in 31 minutes of action.

Urate and Quirap added 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Gary Avila contributed nine points.

Didoy Proel led Pikemen’s losing effort with 25 points on 8-of-19 shooting r and nine rebounds in 31 minutes of action for coach Bong Dela Cruz.

Ivan Ares added 10 points and five rebounds while Edward Daquioag and Cyd Capulong chipped in seven and six points, respectively.

Although EAC-Cavite was already eliminated from the playoffs, the Vanguards played well agaist the Pikemen.

In the womens division, EAC-C narrowly escaped Bestlink Collge of the Philippines, 60-56, De La Salle University-Dasmarinas pulled the rug from under Centro Escolar University, 84-71.

The 1-2 punch of Shekainah Paraiso and Jujelyn Yap spearheaded the Lady Vanguards of coach Maria Theresa Magno.

Paraiso scored 20 points on 7-of-18 shooting, grabbed four rebounds, and made three steals, while Yap contributed 17 points, eight rebounds, seven steals, and four assists.

Jane Cuison led the losing effort for the Edwin Punio-mentored Bestlink with 13 points on 5-of-7 on the field, and 12 rebounds in 20 minutes of action.
