Anti-drug war

THE continuing war against the drug menace has given the outgoing administration of President Rodrigo R. Duterte a much-needed boost in the eyes of the public.

The illegal drug problem remains to be one of the major problems of government authorities and the people, particularly the ordinary citizens across the country.

When the Chief Executive from Davao City assumed office at 12 noon on June 30, 2016, he vowed to wipe out drug addiction, graft and corruption and criminality.

Later on, President Duterte and his trusted lieutenants found out that killing the “drug monster” and eradicating official corruption were better said than done.

“Hanggang ngayon ay problema pa rin ang droga at korapsyon kahit na patapos na ang anim na taong panunungkulan ni Pangulong Duterte,” said a barangay official.

But we are heartened to know that government authorities, particularly the men and women in police uniform, are still determined to rid the country of illegal drugs.

Reports said the national police agency and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) continue to seize illegal drugs, like shabu, in various parts of the country.

PDEA is the law enforcement arm of the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), which used to be headed by Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto.

But the accomplishments of the government’s total war against the drug menace, corruption and criminality are seen to raise the cue for the next administration to continue the fight.

This, if the incoming government officials, notably the successor of President Duterte, have the heart and the mind for the good of the country and the Filipino people.

Let these new public servants wipe out the drug pushers, drug dependents, corrupt government officials and other criminals from the surface of the earth.
