POLICE arrested a 52-year-old aircon technician for allegedly setting his rented house on fire Saturday evening in Caloocan City.

Caloocan police chief P/Col. Samuel Mina said elements of the Caloocan Police Sub-Station 2 led by P/MSgt. Julius Mabasa arrested Peter Delos Reyes after he was accused by his landlady, Fe Paredes, 70, of setting ablaze his rented house located om149 5th Street corner 7thAvenue, Brgy. 112 at around 6:33 p.m.

Paredes, who was also living in the burned house being utilized by Delos Reyes as his aircon repair shop told police that prior to the incident, the suspect and his 52-year-old live-in partner Angelita Abaygan had engaged in a heated altercation.

In an interview over the phone, Sgt. Mabasa said an arson investigator handling the case is not discounting jealousy as one of the motives of the suspect in setting his rented house on fire.

The suspect was also seen by Paredes going back and forth into his aircon repair shop while carrying a gallon allegedly containing flammable liquid before the blaze broke out.

Caloocan Fire Director F/Supt. Roberto Samillano, Jr. said the quick response of Caloocan City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent houses.

The fire was finally put out at around 7:04 p.m. and destroyed property worth an estimated P50,000.

There were no reported casualties.
