61,843 people affected by habagat, Egay, Falcon in N. Ecija

CABANATUAN CITY — At least 61,843 persons comprising of 16,942 families in the 88 barangays in Nueva Ecija were affected by the southwest monsoon brought by typhoons Egay and Falcon, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the province said.

According to DWSD -Nueva Ecija social marketing officer Christer Carandang, about P2-million worth of combined relief goods and financial assistance has been distributed to the victims of the calamity.

Carandang said relief distribution is still ongoing in the affected areas and other local government units which requested relief augmentation from the agency.

Based on the assessment conducted by the LGUs, 226 houses were reported as partially-damaged, of which 211 in Carranglan, 11 in Cuyapo and four in Nampicuan.

Carandang said that the DSWD is ready to help affected residents whose houses were damaged, including the 17 houses that were totally-damaged in Carranglan.

In San Leonardo, the agency helped 28 families who lost their homes due to the erosion of the slope where their houses were standing.

They immediately received a family food pack, hygiene kit, sleeping kit, family kit, kitchen kit and modular tent from the DSWD, according to Carandang.

Carandang added that the offices of the Local Social Welfare and Development Offices in every municipality and city are open for those who need help, especially during calamities.
