Unite against China falsehood on WPS, senators exhort Pinoys
SENATORS are of one voice in asking Filipinos to stand united in protecting Philippine territory amidst the disinformation campaign by Chinese government on the controversial West Philippine Sea.
In a press conference yesterday, Senator Nancy Binay said Filipinos should send a clear message of commitment to defending the country’s territory.
“Sa atin po ang WPS at hindi kelan man dapat itong isuko kaninuman. We don’t want war but we will safeguard our sovereign and territorial waters,” Binay maintained.
According to Binay the recent decision of President Marcos jr., not to use the water cannon against China is a perfect decision.
“Alam naman natin na kulang din tayo talaga sa bala, hindi tayo kasing laki ng China pero hindi rin naman tayo papayag na tatapakan na lamang ang ating dignidad. We should fight for our territorial rights.
For Senator Jose Jinggoy Estada, claims on the alleged “new model” arrangement to ease tension in the West Philippine Sea are nothing but another apparent disinformation campaign by the Chinese government.
“China’s claim is nothing more than smoke and mirrors. We will not be swayed by falsehoods.” Estrada said.
According to Estrada, China’s recent assertions “are nothing more than a trap, designed to divert attention from their unfounded claims and aggressive actions. Ayungin Shoal is an integral part of our exclusive economic zone and this has been already upheld by the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hague in 2016.”
