2 ‘gun runners’; 1 cop killed in Bataan sting

A POLICE officer and two alleged “gun-running” suspects on Monday were killed in an entrapment operation in Bataan.

In a report to Police Regional Office (PRO) 3 director P/BGen. Jose Hidalgo Jr., acting Provincial Director of Bataan Col. Palmez Z. Tria said members of the Bataan PIU (Provincial Intelligence Unit), Orion police, Bataan 2nd PMFC together with Bataan CIDG PFU, launched an operation against the two suspects for alleged gun-running racket which resulted in a shootout in Barangay Gen. Lim, Orion, Bataan.

The suspects opened fire at approaching cops killing P/Cpl. Darnel S. Alfonso, a member of Bataan PIU and injured Bataan PIU OIC (Officer-in-Charge) P/Maj. Dennis Duran and PSSgt. Glenn Salac.

They were immediately rushed to the Bataan General Hospital, where Alfonso was declared dead upon arrival, and the others were in stable condition.

The two suspects who died in the police operation are still unidentified.

Police recovered from the suspects one .45 pistol loaded with 12 live bullets, another .45 pistol loaded with six live bullets, a homemade shotgun 12 gauge with four live shells, and one hand grenade.

The PRO3 and the Bataan police commended the gallantry and heroism of Alfonso and the raiding team in the bloody operation.

“Our men and women in uniform displayed exceptional skills, dedication, and professionalism in the line of duty, resulting in the neutralization of notorious criminal elements and the seizure of illegal drugs and firearms,” Tria said.

“We extend our sincerest gratitude to our brave police personnel for their selfless service and sacrifice to keep our province safe. We assure our citizens that the Bataan PPO (Police Provincial Office) remains steadfast in carrying out our mandate to serve and protect, and we will spare no effort in bringing to justice those who threaten the safety and security of our province,” he added.
