THE Land Transportation Regulatory and Franchising Board (LTFRB) is doing a 24-hour monitoring in all major terminals across the country while Filipinos are heading back to their provinces for the Holy Week.

“We do have a 24-hour watching in the terminals, the moment kinapos yung bus yung isang bus companies, we immediately issue the special permit. Remember ang isa pa pong trabaho ng LTFRB is monitoring the terminals to see to it na malinis po yung lahat ng terminal, mga major terminals sa Pilipinas,” LTFRB Chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III said in an interview at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay on Wednesday.

“We have a report every six hours on the monitoring of the terminals,” he added.

Guadiz noted that the LTFRB has issued 1,050 special permits to buses catering to passengers going to the provinces for the observance of the Holy Week. The special permits will be valid until the second week of April, he said.

He explained that giving special permits to public utility vehicles at a time where more public transportation are needed, gives “a semblance of legitimacy” for the public utility vehicles (PUVs) to ply the routes.

“We have to give them a semblance of legitimacy, we have to issue special permit para po pag may nangyari sa daan, meron po tayong mahahabol na insurance company,” Guadiz said.

The LTFRB chief noted that the agency have already deployed buses in response to the temporary closure of the Philippine National Railways (PNR).

“Nagdala po kami ng buses along that area. For now, there’s route 1 and route 2 na na-identify namin and ang ilalagay po namin diyan ay the city buses po, yung nakikita n’yo po sa EDSA Carousel, there will be about 50 of those, 25 for each route,” Guadiz said.

Modernized jeepneys will also be deployed along PNR routes to cater to passengers going to Tutuban.
