A lawmaker is pushing for bills that empower women and protect their rights and welfare.

Quezon City Rep. PM Vargas expressed hopes to the passage of House Bill 6007 (Young Women’s Refuge and Assistance Center Act); HB 6005 (National Program for Women’s Enterprise); HB 6003 or an Act Creating Women in Political Parties Empowerment Fund; and HB 6001 (Act to Ensure Gender-Responsive and Inclusive Protocols to address the gender-differentiated needs of women during public health emergencies, public health threats, disasters, and other health events of public concern).

In a statement, Vargas said that these measures are intended to provide women with better access to health and expand their opportunity for economic and social participation.

“Empowered women empower society. They already have unique strengths and capabilities. We just need to fuel the change on how we want the world to perceive them,” Vargas said in a statement.

The HB 6007 aims to provide ample and reliable access to maternal health and safe childbirth to young first-time mothers.

The HB 6005 is for the business-oriented women in order to level the playing field, making them more competitive and resilient to challenges that come along the way in their chosen venture.

Based on the data from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian, Filipino women have been the worst-hit by the pandemic.

Reports said that more than 6 million Pinays were exposed to domestic violence and other vulnerabilities.

The HB 6001 is aimed at addressing gender-differentiated needs of women during public health emergencies, public health threats, disasters, and other health events of public concern.

Meanwhile,, the HB 4479 (An Act Expanding the Prohibited Acts of Discrimination Against Women on Accounts of Sex) which Vargas is a co-author has been approved on third and final reading in the Lower House.
