A FLEEING armed robbery suspect was killed in a gunfight with responding police officers in Davao City past 2:00 a.m. Friday, Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11) Director Brigadier General Benjamin H. Silo Jr. said Thursday.

The 21-year-old suspect yielded a home-made caliber .38 revolver with one spent cartridge and live ammunition following the firefight along Phase 4, Camachile Street in Ciudad Esperanza, Barangay Cabantian 2:15 a.m. Friday.

According to the PRO 11 director, members of the Davao City Police Office were on a surveillance mission in the area when they saw the suspect jumping from the fence of a local resident.

A team member tried to accost the suspect but was immediately fired upon by the latter prompting him to return fire.

The suspect was hit in the body and taken to the Southern Philippines Medical Center, where an attending physician declared him dead upon arrival.

Silo said that apart from the loaded unlicensed firearm, the suspect yielded a backpack containing assorted tools, a cellphone, several jewelry items, a bonnet, and a plastic sachet of 1.3 grams of shabu worth P18,500.

The slain suspect was subjected to a paraffin test before his autopsy.

Silo said that the slain suspect has turned out to be one of the main anti-criminality targets of the Davao City Police following his purported involvement in a series of robbery holdups in the city, the latest of which enabled them to steal assorted firearms.
