NOW said to be circulating in Makati is an alleged petition by an unknown group asking Congress to intervene in the territorial dispute between Taguig and Makati even as some Embo residents have already asked for immediate transfer to Taguig.

The letter which is reportedly making the rounds of Enlisted Men Barrio (Embo) barangays in Makati City urges the residents to sign the petition and appeal for the issue to be taken up in Congress.

The petition argues that under the 1987 Constitution the people have the power to propose amendments to the Constitution or to propose and enact legislation.

However, aside from “Mamamayan ng Makati,” the petition does not bear any name of individual or group that would signal as to who initiated the move.

It further states that the residents’ petition asking for help from Congress will be their “last resort” after the Supreme Court issued a final decision declaring that the ten Embo barangays, including the Bonifacio Global City, are under the jurisdiction of Taguig City.

The petition also argued that Congress had once recognized that Embo barangays are indeed part of Makati when it legislated the existence of the city’s second district.

However, the petition letter is a stark contrast to the to the real sentiment emanating from the residents of Embo.

This is evident in the letter received by some Taguig City Government officials where the affected residents themselves are in fact asking that the transition process be hastened.

The officials of Taguig refused to name the group of Makati residents for their protection.

The 30-year territorial dispute between Makati and Taguig has already been decided by the Supreme Court.

The high tribunal ordered that BGC and Embo barangays are covered by Taguig and it also ordered the immediate implementation of the ruling.
