ORIENTAL MINDORO – The local provincial government here ordered ORMECO (Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative) to solve brownouts in the province in 15 days and to review the contracts with independent power producers (IPPs).

The electric cooperative was tasked to review the contracts with IPPs if they could not deliver enough power supply as agreed and to amend or take appropriate action.

Oriental Mindoro has been experiencing frequent and prolonged brownouts in recent days.

The power outages resulted in fuel shortages, damage to some plants, and poor air conditioning on the Philippine Hybrid Energy System, Inc. (PHESI) side.

As part of the provincial government’s cooperation with ORMECO, Governor Bonz Dolor also instructed the ORMECO Finance Department to “tighten” billing and collection, especially in government offices.

The governor said to give twice “warning” that if they still do not pay, their power supply will be cut though they have deliberate funds set aside for the energy billing.

Gov. Dolor added, “If ordinary consumers are cut off from the power supply immediately when they do not pay, the same should be done in government offices.”

Meanwhile, EESD Labor and Employment Officer III Sofia Ala-Logmao, Labor and Employment Assistant Jesusa M.Cruz, DOLE Provincial Office Representative Mary Ann D. Villajuan, Dr. Hazel Kathereen Guico, the representative of the Provincial Health Office (PHO), reminded the vaccination team assigned to the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro (PGOM) on May 30, urged young SPES beneficiaries to be vaccinated, especially those eligible for the 18 years old and above for booster shots against COVID-19.

Dr. Guico said that the booster shots are an important and additional layer of protection from COVID-19.
