A JOBLESS man was seriously injured after he was shot twice in the body by his neighbor inside his abode Tuesday before dawn in Caloocan City.

Erick Mabutin, 31, of Int. 10 A. Mabini St., Maypajo, Bgy. 33 was rushed to Caloocan City Medical Center, where he was placed under observation after he underwent surgical treatment for bullet wounds in the body.

Caloocan Police Chief P/Col. Samuel Mina, Jr. said responding policemen led by P/CMSgt. Romel Bautista, P/Cpl. Joseph Young, and P/Cpl. Christian Malinao immediately conducted a follow-up operation to arrest the suspect, also a resident of Int. 10 A. Mabini St., but he was not found.

Investigation showed that while Mabutin was resting inside his house with an open door covered only with a curtain, the suspect suddenly barged in at around 3:15 a.m. and, without a word, shot the victim twice in the body, then hurriedly fled, bringing the unknown caliber of firearm he used.

Investigators are still determining the motive behind the incident, pending the filing of frustrated murder charges against the suspect before the Caloocan City Prosecutor’s Office.
