Man in PCG recruitment scam nabbed

A MAN accused of promising Philippine Coast applicants of easy entry into the unit for P15,000 each was arrested by agents of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the PCG in an entrapment operation in front of the Baclaran Church Monday in Pasay City.

Suspect Nelson Fortuna Aborda was placed under arrest after he received the marked money from a complainant. The suspect’s two companions identified as Anne Jubac and John Herald Padillo escaped arrest and are still being hunted as of press time, PNP-CIDG director Brigadier General Romeo M. Caramat Jr. The two other suspects apparently sensed they were about to be arrested and immediately fled.

According to Brig. Gen. Caramat, members of the CIDG Intelligence Division, with the support of PCG operatives launched the sting amid complaints that the suspects are engaged in a racket wherein they promise PCG applicants they would be included in the final list of successful Coast Guard trainees for P15,000 each.

Recovered from the possession of Abordo were the marked money, a chamber-loaded caliber .45 semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing seven live ammunition and an expired License to Own and Possess Firearm or LTOPF identification card.

The suspect was charged with estafa and violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013.
