THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) has deputized 110 traffic enforcers of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), including its district director, said a ranking official of the agency.

Atty. Clarence V. Guinto, director of LTO-Law Enforcement Service (LTO-LES), said the road safety program dubbed “Para sa Ligtas na Kalsada Para sa Bayan”, a partnership between the Department of Transportation (DOTr), LTO, and QCPD under District Director Gen. Nick Torre.

Under the program, LTO and QCPD will strictly implement the Republic Act (RA) 10586 (Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act 2013) to ensure no one is driving under the influence of liquor, illegal substances, and illegal drugs, said Guinto.

“We have to be proactive, as you can see, the law has been there since 2013; all we have to do is implement it properly in order to tell the public, especially motorists, that the law is being strictly implemented and they have to obey it,” said Guinto.

“Akala kasi nila [biro-biro] ang batas na ito, we [have] been sending a strong message to motorists driving under the influence of liquor, illegal substance, and illegal drugs is a serious offense,” Guinto pointed out.

A crash training was conducted and attended by QCPD, LTO, QC Prosecutor’s Office, and QC Department of Justice on prosecuting drunk/drugged drivers to ensure all LTO deputized agents would implement the law properly and not violate any human rights of any individual they would “plague down” in the roads.

“Siniguro muna natin lahat ng deputized alam na alam ang pagpapatupad ng batas na ito hindi lalabag sa karapatang pantao ng bawat individual na mahuhuli,” said Guinto.

Guinto reminded motorists violating RA 10586 the penalties range from a minimum of three months to a maximum of 20 years imprisonment. The fine ranges from P20,000 to P500,000.
