PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) chief, General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar on Wednesday assured that the situation in Mindanao remains under the control of security forces who are guarding against threats from all terror fronts.

He issued the assurance after a political analyst warned of a possible spillover in Mindanao of the tension in Afghanistan.

Philippine Institute for Peace, Violence and Terrorism Research chief Rommel Banlaoi claimed the conflict could inspire local terrorist groups to carry out attacks.

Gen. Eleazar said the PNP and the Armed Forces of the Philippines are closely coordinating with each other to thwart attacks that may be carried out by local terrorist groups.

“Sa ngayon, maayos at kontrolado natin ang sitwasyon doon. Patuloy ang ating koordinasyon sa militar para magbantay at matiyak na hindi makapagsasagawa ng anumang pag-atake ang mga local terrorist groups sa Mindanao,” the PNP chief said.

“I assure the public that the police and military will not allow a spillover of the Afghan conflict. Hindi namin hahayaan na makapaghasik ng kaguluhan sa bansa ang mga lokal na terorista para sabayan ang gulo sa Afghanistan,” he added.

Gen. Eleazar guaranteed that the PNP would be on full alert and intensify intelligence gathering operations to ensure there is no spillover in the southern part of the country of tension in Afghanistan.

The Taliban which has a long history of committing violence especially against women and children has taken over the government of Afghanistan.

The PNP chief also urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report unusual incidents that could threaten the safety of our communities.
