Ecija cops discover cache of guns, bullets, explosives at ‘rebels lair’

CUYAPO, Nueva Ecija — The latest anti-insurgency operation conducted by the Nueva Ecija police to boost the government’s campaign to end the local communist armed conflict (ELCAC) bore fruit following the discovery of a cache of firearms and ammunition including food and explosives at a suspected rebel encampment in this town on Saturday.

Lt. Col. Ranny G. Casilla, 2nd provincial mobile force commander said his men teamed up with the 304th RMFB, Talugtug police, the Nampicuan and local police here in conducting the joint special intelligence operation in Bgy. Colosboa at 1:20 p.m.

In a report to Nueva Ecija police director Col. Jess B. Mendez, Casilla said they recovered in the site an improvised cal.22 magnum with magazine loaded with six bullets; two rifle grenades; two hand grenades; a container of rice cache; a shotgun barrel; 171 live cal.5.56 bullets for M-16 rifle; seven bullets for cal.357; nine ammunition for cal.380; two ammo for M203 grenade launcher; a live bullet for cal.38; a bandolier; a roll of electrical wire; a car battery; two pairs of rubber shoes; a pair of farm boots; and several kitchen utensils.

Mendez said this showed that despite the election period, his men remain focused not only on election security matters and related concerns but also on its ELCAC efforts as per directives of Police Regional Office 3 director Brig.Gen. Matthew P. Baccay to intensify implementation of President Duterte’s Executive Order No. 70 in Central Luzon.

Mendez said the recovered items were brought to the 2nd PMFC for proper disposition while the Nueva Ecija provincial explosives and canine unit was tasked for the proper handling and disposal of the explosives.
