Davao’s Hugpong dominates elections

THE Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), the ruling regional party in Davao region, was elated over dominance in the May 9 elections.

Out of 412 candidates, 233 HNP members won in this year’s elections.

One of the proclaimed winners was HNP’s president and Davao Occidental’s Lone District Representative Claude Bautista.

The first-time congressman had served the province as governor since 2016.

Presumptive vice president Sara Duterte is the chairman of the HNP.

She and Bautista are among the founders of the regional party.

Davao de Oro’s Vice Governor Maricar Zamora successfully sealed her comeback as First District representative.

Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy, who is the party’s treasurer, will serve as Davao de Oro ‘s vice governor.

Davao del Norte was also able to get back to its feet after a dominating number in its electoral posts.

Former City Councilor Oyo Uy is now the province’s new Vice Governor while his father, who currently sits as the Vice Governor, won Tagum City’s mayoral race.

Second District Representative Alan Dujali was re-elected for a second term.

Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte both have seven HNP members out of 10 winning members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

HNP members and allies in the Nacionalista Party also dominated the elections in Davao del Sur and Davao Oriental.

Voters have also elected into office HNP members in Davao City.

Reelectionists Representatives Paolo Duterte (First District) Vincent Garcia (Second District) and Isidro Ungab (Third District) also won in their respective bid for a second term.

Sebastian Duterte also won as the city’s new mayor with a huge vote margin against his opponent. By Jester Manalastas
