CIDG ‘hulidays’ nets 10 MWPs

TEN “most wanted persons” (MWPs) in the country were arrested on Christmas Day by agents of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) amid their “Hulidays” anti-crime drive, PNP-CIDG Director Brigadier General Ronald O. Lee said Wednesday.

“While the entire nation is celebrating the birth of Christ, our CIDG operatives continuously ensure that every community is free from lawless elements by implementing our Oplan: Hulidays last December 25, leading to the arrest of the eight wanted persons,” the official said in a report to PNP Chief Gen. Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr.

Lee said that among those put to jail by his men on Christmas Day: 4th most wanted at the provincial level; 8th most wanted, municipal level; and an MWP at the city level.

He said that one of the suspects, the 4th MWP in Camarines Sur, was arrested by operatives of the CIDG 5th Regional Field Unit (RFU) with the help of the local police on the strength of a warrant for three counts of lascivious conduct in relation to Republic Act (RA) 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Law with a total of P600,000 bail ordered by a local court.

The 2nd, identified as the 8th MWP in Sarangani, was arrested based on a case for grave coercion with a P36,000 recommended bail.

The 3rd, tagged as the leader of a “gun-for-hire” syndicate operating in North Cotabato and its nearby municipalities, was arrested by CIDG Region 12 officers on the strength of a non-bailable warrant of arrest for murder.

Lee said that the five other suspects were the subject of pending warrants of arrest for child abuse, acts of lasciviousness, qualified theft, illegal recruitment, and reckless imprudence.

Two others tagged as the no. 1 most wanted in Cavite and Cebu, respectively, were also arrested on Christmas Eve, the official said.

One captured suspect was wanted for rape and sexual assault with no bail, recommended by Judge Flordeliz Fargas of the Trece Martires City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 5, was arrested by CIDG Manila District Field Unit operatives in Bgy. Biwas in Tanza, Cavite.

On the other hand, an MWP wanted for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2002 was arrested in Bgy. Nangka in Balamban, Cebu, by CIDG Region 7 agents based on a warrant issued by Judge Judilyn Tapia of the Toledo City RTC Branch 59.
