AUTHORITIES arrested a Chinese national after he allegedly tried to “bribe” lawmen with P.1 million for the release of his compatriot who was previously arrested for illegal drugs in Taguig City.

Southern Police District (SPD) Director P/Brigadier Gen. Kirby John Kraft said the suspect went to the office of P/Maj. Judge Rowe Donato, commander of Taguig Police Sub-Station 1, located at the corner of 40th St. and 9th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Barangay Fort Bonifacio, at around 11:40 a.m. on Sunday to visit his detained friend who was previously arrested for violation of Section 11 and 12 of Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The suspect allegedly “offered” the arresting police officer P100,000 “bribe money” in exchange for the release of his friend, which prompted the lawmen to put him under arrest.

Kraft said police confiscated from the suspect the bribe money and one Alien Employment Permit (AEP), and an identification card.

The Chinese suspect, according to Taguig police chief P/Col. Robert Baesa, is now in the custody of Taguig Police Station and will be facing charges for violation of RA 3019, Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Law, before the Taguig City Prosecutor’s Office.
