Batch 94 keeps volleyball title

BATCH 94 survived a gallant stand by Team 80s to eke out a thrilling 25-23, 20-25, 21-25, 25-17, 15-12 victory and retain the title in the volleyball competitions in the ERJHS Alumni Sportsfest 2023 at the Barangay N.S. Amoranto covered court in Malaya St., Quezon City.

Led by Jefferson Chavez and Mamei Apinado, Batch 94 dominated the last two sets by outworking and outhustling their older opponents in the five-set thriller watched by a sizable crowd that included former national team coach Dulce Pante.

Team 80s went 2-1 after taking the second and third sets behind the strong game of former national team player Rizalito del Moro. But a visibly-tired Team 80s failed to keep pace after Batch 94 stepped up its game and ran away with the championship.

Batch 96 finished third.

Chavez was named as Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

The members of the Mythical Tem aare Apinado and Allen Gonzales of Batch 94, Del Moro and Helen Grace Undag of Team 80s and Rnhel Machunar and Khaye Jarabejo of Batch 96.

The awarding ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 14 with Batch 76 as event presentor.

ERJHS Alumni Sports Club president Ed Andaya of Batch 81 and vice president Imee Gines of Batch 82 will present the trophies and medals to the winners, along with the officers of Batch 76.

The event is also supported by the E. Rodriguez Jr. High School, led by Principal Gina Labor Obierna, and Barangay N.S. Amoranto under Chairman Ato de Guzman. AA
