AKARI hopes to move on and grow as a team after finishing seventh in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.

The Chargers logged five wins in the tournament, where the club unveiled key off-season signees in Grethcel Soltones, Fifi Sharma, Ced Domingo and libero Max Juangco.

Displaying dominance from start to finish, Akari overwhelmed Strong Group, fashioning out a decisive 25-8, 25-15, 25-16 triumph in the final preliminary round matchday at the Philsports Arena on Saturday night.

“It’s a positive step for us as we prepare for the next conference,” said Sharma, who celebrated her 23rd birthday by earning the game’s top honors with a nine-point showing, including five blocks.

“While this victory boosts our confidence, we acknowledge that there’s still much work to be done to elevate our performance further,” she added.

The Chargers had to made adjustments, as coach Jorge Souza de Brito has resigned from his position after four conferences last December and Raffy Mosuela took over the following month.

Domingo, a former Creamline standout who was coming off a title run with Nakhon Ratchasima in the Volleyball Thailand League, took a while before settling down with Akari’s system.

As the curtains draw on the prelims, it sets the stage for a compelling semifinals phase, a single-round affair, where every team enters on equal footing, promising an ever more thrilling showdown in the upcoming round.
