Abalos leads BIDA Fun Run in Imus

IMUS CITY, Cavite — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), in collaboration with the City Government of Imus, strengthened its fight against illegal drug use through the conduct of “Buhay Ingatan, Droga’y Ayawan” (BIDA) activities yesterday at the Vermosa Sports Hub in Bgy. Pasong Buaya, this city.

DILG Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. led the event, along with Undersecretary Lord A. Villanueva, Usec. Florencio Bernabe, Region 4-A Regional Director Ariel O. Iglesia, Provincial Board member Francisco Gabriel “Abeng” Remulla of the 7th district of Cavite representing Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla and Imus City Mayor Alex “AA” L. Advincula.

Colorful zumba and fun run were held, with around 3,000 participants from different government sectors from the seven cities and 16 towns of the province of Cavite.

“Labanan po natin ang ilegal na droga, tayo po ay tumakbo, magpapawis, ito po ay idiin natin sa mga tao.” We invite you all, on the 1st anniversary of BIDA next month, with towns and cities, sabay sabay po tayong tatakbo sa buong Pilipinas, mula Luzon, Visayas at Mindanao, Let us make this happen, let us do this against drugs.’ Abalos told the thousands of participants.

“Samahan po natin ang mga kapulisan, PDEA at NBI na sugpuin ito. Tulungan natin ang mga kabataan na ilayo sa droga, mga taga-Imus, mga taga-Cavite, taus- puso po akong nagpapasalamat sa inyong lahat sa suporta ninyo sa kampanya kontra droga.” Abalos added.

Cavite Mayor’s League president Perfecto Fidel of Indang, Cavite said they fully support the BIDA program.’

“We, here in the province of Cavite, along with 22 other local chief executives, fully support the program,” Fidel said.

A town hall meeting at the New Imus City Government Center followed, which was attended by 300 representatives from different sectors and groups all over the country.

Discussed during the meeting were pressing topics about illegal drugs, including the role of the religious sector in the fight against the drug menace, the effects of drug abuse in schools and academics, and how illegal drugs affect business and the economy.
